Dear Parents / Carers
Children in Need
Many thanks for your support with regards to Children in Need. It was lovely to see the children dressed in spots and stripes for the day and to be able to raise the profile of the charity. As a result of your generosity, I am delighted to inform you that we have sent £597.27 to help to further the work of this good cause.
Armistice Day
To commemorate Armistice Day, the Year 6 led a short service via Zoom for the children throughout the school. This was very well written and produced by the children and staff and helped the children to focus on the meaning behind the day. Well done to all concerned! I am also delighted to inform you that a total of £499.70 was raised on behalf of the British Legion to support the charity through the sale of poppies and merchandise. Many thanks for your support with this.
Lockdown
I would like to take this opportunity to that you for your continued support during this difficult time. The vast majority of parents are adhering to our face covering policy, which combined with the regular cleans and one way systems has helped us to avoid an outbreak of the virus at High Street. However, we need to maintain these high standards and therefore rely on members of the school community following the rules: what we must stress is that no one is enjoying this, but together we are stronger and will be able to protect those closest to us.
To support the Lockdown process and help us all to get through this difficult time, please may I remind all concerned of the need to follow the following guidance:
Face Coverings:
These should be worn by all adults and children over the age of 12 on entry to site.
One Way System:
Please follow the one-way system as you enter and exit site; this has been introduced to reduce the spread of the virus, please adhere to this system when dropping off or collecting children from Breakfast and After School Club.
Social Distancing:
Please adhere to social distancing when entering and exiting the site.
Parents on site:
Please note that only one parent / carer per family should be on site at any one time. Parents / carers are also asked to simply drop off their children and collect them as quickly as possible, remaining on site for the shortest period of time.
Christmas
This year, as with all school activities, Christmas will be different to what we usually do. However, we are desperate for the children to experience something closer to the norm and to celebrate Christmas in a fun way, whilst ensuring the safety of all members of the school community. With this in mind, we have planned the following activities (lockdown permitting).
A sing for Christmas
The children will take part in a Key Stage Carol Service during the coming weeks. This will be recorded and made available for all parents to view online before we break for the Christmas holiday.
To comply with regulations the singing will be filmed outdoors. Please note that those children whose parents have not given permission to feature on video feeds, will join with their peers, but only their voices will feature as part of the choir.
Christmas Parties
We hope to be able to continue with these as planned, but sadly we won’t be able to ask the PTA to help us with the party food due to current regulations. We will therefore be providing the children with a bag of crisps, drink and a cake. Sadly, it is unlikely that Father Christmas will be able to visit due to the current restrictions, but it is hoped that he will be able to send a video message.
Theatre Visits
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to take the children to the theatre as we normally do to see seasonal plays / pantomimes. However, we have been able to source a company who deliver pantomimes for schools. They will deliver a performance to each year group at a time, in a socially distanced manner, which will comply with the current Government guidelines. Further details to follow.
Christmas Meal
This year Mrs Piggott (the school cook) will be providing a Christmas Dinner on Tuesday 15th December. An electronic form will be sent out to parents next week to determine who would like a Christmas meal on the day. Please note that the deadline for returning the form will be 1st December to allow the cook to order the number of Turkeys required.
Festive Fundraising
This year we have decided to support St. Luke’s through our Christmas fundraising appeal. To do so, the children will be asked to take part in a ‘Rudolf Run’ during the last week of term. This will involve them wearing a set of antlers and a red nose provided by St. Luke’s and following the lead of a member of staff dressed in a Father Christmas suit around a designated course. This is usually a sponsored event, however we are mindful that finances are tight for many families at present and therefore we have set up a ‘Just Giving Page’ which will enable parents to make a donation of what they can afford to this worthy charity. Please note that the children will also be provided with a pot of porridge for taking part in the activity. These have also been provided by St. Luke’s and were donated by Mornflake Oats in Crewe. However, it should be noted that the pots come with a sachet of Nutella for flavouring and that this product could contain nuts. More details about the Just Giving Page to follow.
