Curriculum
At High Street Community Primary School, we endeavour to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that engages the children from the outset.
For each topic that we deliver, we create a knowledge organiser which outlines the knowledge that the children will acquire during the unit. Knowledge organisers can be viewed under the 'Knowledge Organiser' tabs on the Y1 homepage.
This year, our Year 1 children will be learning about:
- Wonderful Winsford
- The UK from Above
- Home and Away
Our topic this term is called:
Wonderful Winsford
History - In the second half term, we will be learning about toys of the past! We will be asking children about their favourite toys, and if they can find out about their families favourite toys when they were younger. We will then compare how things were the same or different.
Geography - In geography, we will be exploring map skills to locate areas around our school grounds. We will focus on aerial maps, including using them and making our own!
Our English texts this term is:
Jack and the beanstalk and Lost & Found
We will be working on applying phonic knowledge to write words, captions and labels in the first few weeks. We will then start to develop this into sentence writing, including using the basic skills of finger spaces and full stops. Alongside writing tasks, your child will also be developing speaking and listening skills, sequencing and story language.
Science
In Science we will be looking at materials. We will look at the properties that different materials have and why this makes them useful for different jobs.
These are just some of the exciting subjects that we will be looking at in the first term of Year 1. View our 'Knowledge Organiser' tabs for details of all subjects.
